Gear Shifters - About Us
Gear Shifters STEM Explorers is a STEM based learning enrichment program that uses LEGO® Bricks and Technic® Elements, motors and batteries to make working models that depict and illustrate engineering, science and technology. Gear Shifters has branched out to include the exploration of Criminal Investigation Techniques and Terminology in its CSI Raleigh! Camps.
Our mission is to promote skills necessary for students to take with them throughout their education and to be critical thinkers is our emerging society. Our vision is to create an environment that encourages growth and learning in order to produce a STEM trained generation of free thinkers.
Gear Shifter’s objective is to teach students critical thinking, problem solving skills, the ability to create or modify designs, assist with improving fine motor skills, organizational skills, following instructions, communication skills, gain confidence and to provide each student with a sense of accomplishment.
Gear Shifters programs are located throughout Wake County, in public, private and charter schools. We offer after school classes, summer camps, birthday parties and workshops. Prices vary depending on type of program. Please contact us for pricing information.
After School classes are held for one (1) hour, once a week for periods from 6-8 weeks, depending on the schedule and needs of that particular school. Summer camps run in 2 sessions weekly at various locations throughout Wake and surrounding counties. Morning sessions run from 9 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and afternoon session run from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. If a child is enrolled in both our morning and afternoon sessions, Gear Shifters provides supervision for lunch at most locations at no additional cost. At certain locations, lunch supervision is provided by the hosting facility at a minimal cost. Snacks and lunch are the responsibility of the parent. All Gear Shifters teachers hold advanced degrees and are specially trained in the teaching model of Gear Shifters. All employees are throughly background checked and Safe Child Certified by the Catholic Archdiocese of Raleigh. Gear Shifters holds appropriate insurance and provides this information to the hosting location. We follow all rules, procedures and protocols for the hosting location along with our own safety protocols to ensure that all children are safe and secure during our classes or camps.
At the beginning of each new class/session, upon pick up, parents and care givers are asked to show a picture ID in order for the child to be released to that individual. We require that all responsible adults that may pick up the child(ren) be listed on your approved pick up list and show ID if they are picking up the child. Children will not be dismissed to anyone that is not on your approved list. The safety of your child is our main concern.
